Furthermore, our professional standards have turned Sanitas into the innovation hub for all of Bupa ELA (Europe and Latin America). The developments implemented in Spain are then rolled out to the other countries where Bupa operates.
All Sanitas hospitals are accredited by the Joint Commission
In 2023, CIMA Hospital Barcelona successfully renewed its accreditation with the Joint Commission International (JCI), which is considered as the most prestigious hospital quality certification in the world. Sanitas is the only healthcare group in Spain to have all its hospitals accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI): La Zarzuela, La Moraleja and Virgen del Mar (in Madrid) and CIMA (in Barcelona).

Other awards
The Virgen del Mar Hospital in Madrid has been accredited as a university centre. This new status enables it to welcome undergraduate students and contribute to their training.
This hospital also received the award for Best Medium-Sized Private Hospital in the Global Hospital Management category at the TOP 20 Awards, presented by the consultancy firm Iqvia to the most outstanding public and private centres across all areas of care. In addition, the CIMA Hospital in Barcelona was nominated in the Women’s Area category.
Our facilities have also been recognised in other awards such as the Quality Healthcare (QH) Awards from the IDIS Foundation and the Best in Class (BiC) Awards.
At the individual level, Dr. José Luis Zamorano, head of the Cardiology Service at La Zarzuela Hospital, has been recognised as the best cardiologist in Spain in the 1st Merco Awards – Health Observatory.

Our award for innovation and clinical excellence for dentists, stomatologists and maxillofacial surgeons has become a benchmark in Spain.
MIR and EIR Awards
Sanitas MIR
Since 1996, the Sanitas MIR Award has recognised the Internal Medical Resident showing the greatest potential during their specialised training. This competition is the only one of its kind in Spain and is open to more than 200 MIR-accredited hospitals. Its objective is to promote young talent in the healthcare field.
