Creating tomorrow's health

Sanitas Campus FP

In 2023, Sanitas initiated a new project designed to provide training for healthcare professionals. The project began in the 2023-2024 academic year with the introduction of two vocational training programs: Nursing Assistant Diploma (intermediate level) and Higher Certificate in Dental and Oral Care (higher level). Upon completion of the course, participants will have access to Sanitas’ job bank. The programme has been designed to be more digital, with access to more innovative therapies in data-driven organisations that implement a more preventive, predictive approach to medicine, and greater patient engagement.

Our network is growing

In 2023, Sanitas expanded its network with four new medical centres, two of which include operating rooms (ORs), in order to maintain its commitment to providing the highest quality healthcare to its policyholders. The opening of these new centres brings the Sanitas network up to 24 multi-specialty medical centres across Spain.

Sanitas Blua Valdebebas Hospital

The fifth Sanitas hospital will be equipped with the most advanced physical and digital facilities and services, offering a comprehensive range of medical specialties. It will feature dedicated units for medical oncology, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine, as well as mental health services. The new facility will also serve as the headquarters of the Sanitas Hospitales Research Foundation, which will centralise the group’s clinical research activities. It will be located on a site spanning 30,000 square metres and powered entirely by 100% renewable electricity.

Development of artificial intelligence

The advent of new technologies such as AI, Big Data and advanced analytics has enabled the delivery of more precise medicine with better clinical outcomes. This is achieved through the implementation of prevention and personalisation strategies to enhance the customer, patient and HCP experience. Sanitas is currently engaged in over 50 AI projects designed to enhance the patient experience and provide healthcare professionals with more effective tools. Sania, our virtual assistant, has been instrumental in streamlining appointment scheduling at our Sanitas Hospitals medical centres and dental clinics. In 2023, we successfully rescheduled 72% of cancelled appointments.

Sustainable anaesthesia

One of our key objectives is to ensure that our care processes are as sustainable as possible. In 2023, we made a significant step towards this goal by removing anaesthetic agents such as nitrous oxide and desflurane from our four hospitals. These gases are commonly used in surgical procedures and can produce a significant amount of carbon dioxide. As a result, we have been able to reduce direct emissions by one third, which equates to approximately 1,000 tons of carbon per year.

Net-Zero target

At Sanitas, we are working towards our commitment to achieve net zero direct and indirect emissions by 2030 and 2040, respectively. In order to achieve these goals, in 2023 we invested over 4.4 million euros in energy efficiency projects that will enable us to decarbonise our operations and optimise the utilisation of natural resources.

Healthy cities, healthy people

Taking care of people’s health also means taking care of the planet. For the eighth consecutive year, Sanitas is participating in the Healthy Cities initiative, which has brought together 24,400 people in 2023. The initiative has resulted in participants collectively taking more than 6.3 billion steps, thereby avoiding the emission of 36 tons of CO2. In return, Sanitas has planted over 24,000 trees across Spain and another 2,500 in Senegal.

The commitment and dedication of all of us here at Sanitas translates into wellness and improved health outcomes for our patients. This is our primary motivation and is guided by the values of professionalism, personalised attention and care for both the planet and people. As part of the Bupa group, we have shared this mission since 1989.

Once again this year, at Sanitas, we have put our heart and soul into providing our clients with the best possible care. Our Blua digital ecosystem, which combines the latest technological advances with excellent personalised and direct patient care from our healthcare professionals, enables us to extend our commitment to caring for the planet and all those who live on it.

Looking after people’s health and the planet’s. This is the purpose of Sanitas. By applying the One Health approach, we help create more sustainable, less polluting and healthier environments. Green spaces that promote natural richness and biodiversity. Places that improve people’s quality of life.
